I saw the Mount Velvet-Finish Ottoman Bed Frame in store and spent time with the lift-up base, the headboard and the fabric. My take is simple: the king size makes a lot of sense on a heavy clearance reduction. The super king, at the higher price I saw, would have to drop before I would get interested.
The value story does most of the work here. This bed looks far better than many discounted ottomans, yet some of the practical bits underneath are ordinary. Clearance king? Very tempting. Full-feeling super king money? I would slow down.
How it looks away from the product photos
The Mount has a fairly bold bedroom look. The velvet-finish upholstery feels soft enough in the hand, and the fluted headboard gives the frame its main character. Navy comes with gold accents; grey comes with silver. Only two colour choices, which is a shame, though neither feels difficult to place in a normal UK bedroom.
The metal detailing is more obvious in person than some buyers may expect. One owner said the silver trim was clearer on delivery than it had seemed online, and I understood that immediately in the showroom. In navy, the gold detail looks intentional and warmer. In grey, I would check it against wardrobes, handles and lamps before ordering. Slightly wrong metals can cheapen the whole room.
Across the floor, it has more presence than a plain IKEA upholstered ottoman. Close up, the finish still belongs to the mainstream high-street bracket. That is not a problem at the right clearance price; it is exactly why the super king figure bothered me.
The ottoman base is the reason to care
The end-opening storage is the strongest part of the Mount. The base lifted cleanly when I tried it, and the storage area has a bottom panel, so bedding and bags are not dumped straight onto carpet. Customer reviews keep using words like “huge” and “fantastic” for the storage, and that matches what I saw. Properly useful.
The gas struts felt very strong. That is reassuring with a mattress on top, though one owner said the mechanism closes with a hard shut and lacks a soft-closing feel. I can see that becoming annoying with regular use. A shop floor test tells you the lift works on day one; it does not tell you how civilised it will feel after months of opening and closing.
The sprung slats are the part I liked least. They are standard on this frame, but they did not feel especially substantial when I pressed around the support area and sat near the edge. A few owners have said similar things: one wanted stronger wood, another mentioned slats moving and creaking. That does not make the bed unusable. It does make the discount more important.
Assembly and snag risks
Assembly sounds manageable for competent DIY buyers. One customer built it alone in 2.5 hours, while the suggested two-person build time is 1.5 hours. Several others paid for fitting and had the bed assembled in under an hour. I would lean towards paid assembly here, mainly because ottoman beds become irritating fast when brackets, fixings or alignment are even slightly off.
The review history has a couple of warnings that should not be brushed aside. One broken part was replaced in 3 working days, so aftercare can be fine. Another buyer had missing screws for the safety bar and then received the wrong replacement parts three times, leaving the bed unsafe nearly a month after delivery. Rare, perhaps, but a lifting bed needs its safety hardware right from the start.
There is also a sizing impression to note. One owner said the frame was a bit larger than the mattress and only really hidden by the duvet. I noticed the broad surround in store. In a tight room, that extra visual bulk may matter more than the photos suggest.
Who should be looking at it
This is a bed for someone who wants storage without giving up a dressed-up headboard. It suits a main bedroom better than a spare room, unless the spare is doing serious storage duty. The headboard felt supportive enough when sitting up, though I agreed with the customer who wished it had a little more height. It looks plush, then stops just short of being grand.
At king size clearance pricing, I would put it on the shortlist. The storage, fabric and decorative headboard add up well. For the super king, I would compare it with a Bensons for Beds upholstered ottoman before buying, simply to see whether a similar budget gets you sturdier slats or smoother hardware.
Customer comments that matched the showroom
The positive feedback is easy to believe. Owners describe it as beautiful, sturdy, posh-looking and spacious, with the navy version getting a lot of praise. Delivery and fitting are often praised too, though one person mentioned waiting 2 months, so I would confirm the date before dismantling an old bed.
The grumbles are mostly about real-life use: slats, base alignment, limited colours and the closing action. Those are exactly the details I would check before signing off a delivery. My choice would be the discounted king in navy, with assembly booked and the safety bar checked before anyone leaves the house.
