Hyde and Sleep Mattress Reviews
Summer 2021 Updates: Hyde and Sleep had a few stock challenges through 2020-2021 due to the pandemic and its effect on factories and logistics. The good news is that as things begin to get back to normalcy, we’re beginning to see lead times against products starting to come back down to expected levels. The result of this means that much of the Hyde and Sleep range is available for delivery within 7 days and honestly, if you find yourself needing a mattress quicker than that, you perhaps need to plan better as you’re unlikely to find better.
Hyde And Sleep's Specifics
Hyde & Sleep is a hybrid mattress in a box iteration owned and operated by the Dreams retailer. The available specifications of each offering vary only in firmness giving you a measured and even range of products where the only real characteristic that differs between many is the tension. Feedback generally seems to be positive with many customers finding the mattresses comfortable. There was some frustration from customers across the product reviews and the companies trustpilot around premature dipping over short durations. This can sometimes happen when proper flipping and rotation is not adhered to but can also be a quality control issue within the foam. Looking through many of the concerns raised by customers, it does look like they are subsiding, perhaps suggestive of a poor batch that has since flowed through.
Craftsmanship & Materials
As mentioned previously, the production of these mattresses is from Dreams and these are handcrafted in UK factories. The materials used in these is fairly generic across the range and so can be broken down fairly easily below:
- 1. Top Cover
- 2. Next Gen Memory Foam
- 3. Micro HD Springs
- 4. Responsive Foam
- 5. Ventilation Channels
Top Cover
The cover is what encapsulates the entire mattress and believe it or not, is pivotal in providing comfort. You see, the cover needs to be both durable and soft but, in the case of memory foam mattresses like these, breathable too. The cover is ideal for helping to ensure you are not too hot nor too cold.
Next Gen Memory Foam
Next gen memory foam, as it has been dubbed, looks to be inclusive to the Hyde and sleep range and promises all the benefits of memory foam with less of the downsides around heat retention and buildup that usually occurs with the foam. The foam also naturally protects against dust mites as well as other harmful bacterias thanks to its hypoallergenic properties.
Micro HD Springs
These springs give the best of both worlds, giving the pocket spring support that you typically desire out of a high quality mattress without the downside of a cumbersome, heavy and traditional mattress. You see, the Micro HD Springs still allow the mattress to be rolled and boxed. The benefit to this isn’t only that it gets up your stairs easily, it's that all the savings around logistics, transport storage and more can be passed on to you in the form of a lower price and higher quality product.
Responsive Foam
This layer is what fits at the bottom of the mattress and provides the support (alongside the micro springs) in order to contour sufficiently to your body. Ultimately this layer is what keeps your back and spine where they need to be while you sleep, it's a fairly standard foam layer that works as well as every other foam support layer to be honest.
Ventilation Channels
Ventilation channels play a huge role in memory foam mattresses. The very nature of memory foam is that it is, by and large, an unbreathable moisture retaining heat barrier that can cause the sleeper to get too hot. The act of including ventilation channels reduces this and when combined with the breathable cover, results in a far more cooling experience. You’ll still likely get a bit warm with these mattresses, but not to the point that it is uncomfortable.
Overall Comfort
The entire range of Hyde & Sleep mattresses get good scores, at least initially. There are a few problems that have been identified post-delivery around unnatural dipping where memory foam has failed. The slight upside to this is that this type of failure will typically occur within the first few months and so if it were to occur you would be able to take advantage of Dreams excellent customer service to arrange a replacement with little to no inconvenience.
Firmness
The firmness on the hyde and Sleep range varies and is the one thing not constant across the lineup. The benefit of this is there is surely something for everyone as the range includes everything from soft through to extra firm - meaning comfort can be found across the entire lineup for all.
Cooling
As stated above, the cooling cover combined with breathable ventilation channels helps to mitigate much of the heat build up of memory foam. We can’t say you will find this mattress particularly cooling, but it will at least not be a furnace while you sleep. Think of it as a middle of the road, not too hot not too cold all year round seasonal mattress and you’ll probably not be much off the mark.
Who Are Hyde and Sleep Mattresses Right For?
With the range of different firmness options available the answer is that the mattress will suit everyone regardless of height, size, weight and sleep preference whether it be back or side sleeping. There is a slight caveat that with reports of dipping people should be mindful of keeping up to date with rotation to ensure adequate settlement but provided this is followed everyone should be able to enjoy a great night's sleep.
