Why our sleep experts loved it
From the get-go, I'll be upfront with you; while this industry is certainly not without its high-end players such as Hypnos and Flaxby, I've had my share of rolling around on more modestly-branded mattresses, like our focal point today - the Silentnight SleepHarmony™ Reflex 1600 Mirapocket® Mattress. The price point is heftier than you may expect from Silentnight, a brand we usually associate with more budget-friendly offerings, but what I aim to do in this review is peel back the layers (much like a well-made bed) to see whether this mattress walks the walk, as much as it talks the talk.
Design and Features
The Silentnight SleepHarmony™ Reflex 1600 Mirapocket® Mattress comes with a raft of features and, before you even hit the sheets, you'll notice the attention to detail in its build. A soft-medium comfort grade brings a cushioned support that is inherently responsive, thanks also to the layer of micro springs adding not just another layer of support but a depth to this mattress that you can feel even before you lie down.
What is particularly interesting is the gel-infused support system. The selling point here is six times more breathability than your standard memory foam, and with an aloe vera-infused cover to boot, what we have here is a mattress seemingly designed to whisk you off into a cloud-like sleep with every detail put in place to maximise comfort.
Further enhancing this is the traditional tufting method used, securing the fillings and preventing them from moving around while also adding a touch of traditional charm to an otherwise cutting-edge bed. This mattress is single-sided with the recommendation to rotate it from head to toe regularly. And with a five-year manufacturer's guarantee, this mattress potentially represents a solid investment...if it lives up to the lofty promises made by the brand.
Mattress Comfort
Comfort is subjective, of course, but as a general rule, the Silentnight SleepHarmony™ Reflex 1600 Mirapocket® Mattress' soft-medium grading gives it an edge for side sleepers and those with a lower BMI. Not to mention that those with hourglass figures may also find the additional sinkage through the support layer beneficial.
As I settled down on this mattress in the store, it might not have been my personal home, but I felt it was giving me enough feedback to comment on the comfort. The gel-infusion creates an inviting, flexible feel, yet there are a responsive bounce back and underlying support delivered by the mira-pocket springs, helping to maintain correct spinal alignment and provide targeted pressure relief.
Where it missed a beat for me, personally, was that while it was comfortable, the sensation was not markedly different from some other mattresses in the market that come with a lower price tag. Which leads me to my next point.
Suitability
For those with a lower BMI or side sleepers, this mattress could potentially be a great match. But when it comes to its cost to comfort ratio, I'd open up the floor for some debate. The Silentnight SleepHarmony™ Reflex 1600 Mirapocket® Mattress is priced like a Hypnos or Flaxby but, in reality, it is only a Silentnight. While that is not a slight on Silentnight, it does raise questions about whether this mattress truly offers a high-end experience commensurate with its high-end price tag.
What Customers Thought
Drawing from the feedback that we've encountered, customers appear to praise the innovation behind the gel-infused support system, highlighting how it promotes a cooler sleeping environment than standard memory foam. They also appreciate the Mirapocket® zoned support system that elevates the standard of comfort and improves spinal alignment. The aloe vera-infused cover was another feature that gave it an edge, offering soothing and hydrating properties aimed at enhancing overall wellbeing.
Though bear in mind, these are impressions formed in a store, much like my own experience. A night, or even a week, may offer a different narrative.
The Verdict
Silentnight has released a mattress that does tick a lot of boxes, especially in design and with a feature list that is impressive. The breathability and sheer level of support are assuredly its winning elements.
What I will question, however, is the relatively high price tag that comes with the name. Whilst it may well be Silentnight's foray into the higher-end of the market, potential customers will need to carefully consider whether this specific increase in cost truly equates to an increase in overall sleep quality.
Ultimately, comfort is a personal preference. Try it out for yourself, ask the challenging questions, and ensure you are confident in your choice of mattress. Because, let's face it, we all need a good night's sleep, and the Silentnight SleepHarmony™ Reflex 1600 Mirapocket® Mattress might just hit the spot for you.
