Why our sleep experts loved it

The ActiGel® Glacier 4600 Pocket Sprung Mattress is part of a new range from Therapur that see's many traditional mattress specifications and features that have become commonplace in high-end and luxury mattresses.

To start, the base layer, also known as the support layer. This layer is what gives your body the support it needs to get a well-rested sleep and helps prevent things like back pain and the feeling of waking up sore. The support layer in this mattress is created from pocket springs, for those that don't know, a pocket spring is a spring that is housed in its own little pocket in the mattress and stitched together with many other pocketed springs. The end result of this is even support across the entire base meaning that no matter where you move your body in the night, you will get equal pressure-relieving support across the entire base.

On to the comfort layer and we see this mattress has what is being dubbed profiled Actigel® foam. This gel foam hybrid is able to perform like traditional foam, meaning it is really soft and bouncy, while removing the downsides commonly associated with it like heat regulation. By having better airflow and temperature regulation, the support layer in this mattress will allow you to remain comfortable while you sleep.

The comfort doesn't stop with the actigel layer however, you also get a pillow-top stitched into the top of this product giving you another layer of comfort on top of comfort, allowing you to sink further and become encased in luxury materials while still remaining cool.

Made in the UK by expert craftsman this is one that we don't think you want to miss and is a welcome addition to the new range.

*some elements of this review and the reviews supported by customers were offered against the previous model known as the Therapur ActiGel Response 4200 Mattress. The Therapur ActiGel® Glacier 4600 Pocket Sprung Mattress is an upgraded model that takes everything that was great about the response and added more springs for enhanced support and better body contouring.

Suitability

*Assuming average weight, suitability will vary dependant on body type, use the quiz above for a more tailored guide.
  • Back Sleepers
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • The amount of support offered from a mattress will vary depending on the firmness of the tension and the type of support layer used. Based on a person of average build.
  • Side Sleepers
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • If you sleep on your side you typically need a supportive tension that is not too firm, nor too soft. This is because your hips and shoulders need adequate sinkage.
  • Stomach Sleepers
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Stomach sleepers need a reasonable amount of tension in the base support layer to adequately offer body contouring and help prevent aches and pains. Results will vary based on your build.

Performance

  • Breathability
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Mattresses that feature breathable materials help promote airflow and keep you cool making for a more hygienic night's sleep.
  • Turning on mattress
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Certain materials like memory foam can make it difficult to move about on the mattress while you toss and turn. Same too for pillow tops which can create a cloud like sensation which can make manoeuvrability challenging.
  • Stability
    ★★★★★
    ★★★★★
  • Depending on the type of support layer in place can have an impact on stability, edge to edge support and roll together prevention. Pocket springs of a firmer tension will have better stability than open coil soft tension, for example.

Odour

  • Initial Odour

Although we knew your website offered it, we did not make an appointment in case it made us seem too keen. Upon visiting our local showroom Mike immediately greeted us and, assessing our needs, invited us to try out the test bed which evaluates your sleeping position and proposes the best mattresses for you. This was helped greatly by Joanna Pages commentary although, when I saw my wifes disapproving look, I thought that I might have made a little bit too much of this benefit! All in all, a clever selling tool. Mike then showed us around the extensive showroom and fully explained the attributes of the chosen mattresses. When wed viewed them Mike said that hed leave us to discuss the examples that wed been shown. He'd made it easy for us to decide which was the best mattress for us and we met back up with him and make our purchase. The quality of the product meant that its cost was about a bit more than our initial budget. However, Mikes salesmanship and advice was relaxed and professional, and the service that we received was excellent so we left feeling that our choice was well considered and right.

My old mattress had been fabulous but at 11 years old I was starting to wake up with aches and pains. I bought this mattress as was the most comfortable for me on the day. I did try all of the medium/soft mattresses, some of them a few times but I kept coming back to this one. i ordered it and three weeks later it was delivered by the amazing delivery team. I cant praise them enough, they were so helpful. I was very excited to try it out but I left it to settle for a few hours before putting on all my new bedding and then went to bed looking forward to luxury. I had an awful night! I was so disappointed! I was thinking I might have made a terrible mistake, the mattress felt so much firmer! The next night I got my luxurious sleep. Every night since has just got better and better and my aches have disappeared. I am so pleased I bought this mattress, I dont get too hot, I dont ache, I feel supported but no pressure anywhere, just perfect !

We needed to replace our failing 15 month old German foam mattress, with Allan's help from the St. Andrews Quay store we finally choose the Therapur ActiGel Plus Response 4200D mattress together with a Pair of Tempur Comfort cooltouch Firm pillows This was considerably more than we initially wanted to pay, however since using the mattress at home now for almost three weeks the decision was the correct one. This mattress together with the Tempur pillows immediately felt comfortable having a very luxurious soft top together with the correct firmness needed for a restful night. Completely different from the previous foam mattress. Hopefully our choice will enable us to regain correct sleep patterns for many years to come. Cannot recommend Allan highly enough, he was attentive, professional and very experienced. This was a very satisfactory purchasing experience at Dreams Beds.

My partner and I sought out a new mattress as I was finding the one we had was to soft and causing me back pain. We spent time going through the sleep analysis bed thing to find the right kind of mattress for us. This was one of the recommended ones and therefore decided tj gk for it. We have since received delivery of this a few days ago and I was so excited but I have had nothing but continued back pain if not worse. It feels more firmer than what we experienced in the shop. I love the mattress but my back isnt loving it Im up around 3 times a night in pain. My partner also has a sore back in the morning now. We also got tempur pillows to go with the mattress and for the money we paid for everything its not what I expected and we are seriously considering returning the mattress

This is by far the comfiest bed i have ever slept on. The whole experience was absolutely fantastic. From the moment we walked in, we were treated lovely. We were tested on the electronic bed and asked about any back problems etc and they narrowed down the search to specific ones suitable for our needs. After being very patient with us trying loads and asking so many questions, we managed to pick on we loved and the process was so fast and conpleted within 30 minutes. They were able to do the exact date we wanted for delivery and it was exactly on time very polite guys. And the bed is simply amazing. What a truely flawless service from start to finish. This is not the first mattress weve had and certainly wont be the last. Thank you very much Dreams

I have had this mattress for about 4 weeks now and I am very please with it. The comfort level is outstanding and the Gel cooling layer on the top makes getting a good nights sleep easy. I look forward to going to bed now and am sleeping pretty much through the night whereas before I would wake up several times per night with discomfort and pain in my back. There have been a few nights recently which have been quite warm but the Gel cooling layer really helps to regulate the temperature. While it is not as cool as I expected to be, it definitely helps keep the overall temperature down so sleeping during warmer weather is easier. Overall I am very happy with the quality of this mattress. Would definitely recommend.

We had suffered with sleepless nights for a while and decided to pop in to our local Dreams store. What an experience! We lay on the bed and got a hitech review of our sleeping positions, body needs and were shown a couple of options that the magic bed had recommended. We couldn't wait to get our new bed and see if our restless nights would be over. And they were, like most people the first night was odd, new mattress, different feel, higher position and firmer than our very basic memory foam mattress. We are now asleep within minutes if shutting our eyes, we don't wake in the night and we rise rested without aching. Spend your money well, on the things that improve your wellbeing

We wanted to spend much less on a new mattress but haven't regretted going above the budget at all! Once we tried this in the shop, none of the other models shown to us could compare and although it's expensive, you really cannot put a prize on a good night's sleep. The mattress itself is a littler firmer than in the store but within a couple of weeks you can feel it getting softer while still providing great support. The cooling cover (even with the protector on) is amazing and prevents overheating, especially in the hot summer weather. The number of pocket springs means no more waking up your sleep partner when you turn and the gel topper molds really well around your body.

We wanted to wait over a month to write this as the mattress has started to settle now. The most comfy mattress weve ever had! Usually wed get the odd night where you lie awkwardly then wake up in pain on our old mattress, but that is a thing of the past now. No pain whatsoever. The cooling effect is less obvious with the mattress protector and sheet on but we can still feel the benefit slightly. The height will initially make you think how on earth will this fit on the bedframe, give it a month though and this will settle resulting in the cosiest mattress. We now have to give 15 mins extra in the morning to contemplate leaving the comfort of here now!

We had specifically said that we didn't want a mattress that would cause a dip, as our previous memory foam one had, so were disappointed upon receiving the new mattress to read the instructions saying it must be turned weekly for 3 months and then monthly afterwards. It is much heavier than we'd realised - much heavier than our memory foam - and not easy for us to turn, but we are certainly doing so as advised. The handles don't seem that sturdy though. It is also just as "hot" as our memory foam, which is something else we'd mentioned that we wanted to avoid. Having said all this, it is very comfortable, so far!

I've a very bad back and mattress buying is really stressful, in the past we've got the wrong one and made my back pain considerably worse. We used the sleep machine to calculate which mattress works best and the Therapur was recommended. It's very expensive, but my goodness it's worth it. The gel topper is very comfortable and offers support while being soft on my back. The spring mattress is very supportive and offers a medium firm base. The gel does quickly mould to your sleep position and there is a small ridge in the middle of the bed, but we don't mind that. I am no longer tossing and turning.

I am so glad that I took the time to utilise the Dreams Sleepmatch service as it has indeed matched me with my dream mattress. Had my TheraPur 4200 for about 3 weeks now and is the best sleep I have had in nearly 20 years. As someone who suffers from sciatica it is a joy to sleep in total comfort and not awake with any back pain. These better nights.of sleep mean I have so much more energy during the day, which leads to better productiviy, be that work or play. Combined with the exemplary customer service I received in-store, makes this all one of the better overall consumer experiences I have had.
