Why our sleep experts loved it
I've been looking forward to getting my hands on the Simply Sealy Ortho Mattress because Sealy's PostureTech stuff tends to be a bit more 'proper' than you'd expect at this sort of price. I tried it out in person and, straight away, it felt like an orthopaedic style mattress that actually means it, not just a label. With its unique PostureTech technology, it has been specially designed to provide orthopaedic support, which helps relieve pressure points and support your spine. When I pressed down with my palm and then leaned my weight in, you can feel that firmer response kick in, it doesn't just squash and stay there. Tailor-made and hand-tufted for more support where you need it most, this clever spring system actually gets firmer as pressure increases. You'll enjoy the benefits of this clever design, without paying a premium price.
This is a single-sided mattress for easier care and your convenience. Simply rotate end-to-end to keep it in great condition. Worth saying though, single-sided is still a compromise, you can't flip it to spread wear, and if you're the sort that likes a proper turn-and-rotate routine, you'll miss that.
The mattress is designed with PostureTech Core Support, which provides support across your whole body and helps relieve pressure points, so getting a good night's sleep is easy. Lying on my back, my lower back felt nicely held up and I didn't get that 'hammock' dip you can get on softer open coil style mattresses. On my side, it was a bit less forgiving around the shoulder, so if you're a lighter side sleeper (say under about 70kg) or you like a plusher feel, this could come across as too firm. Motion-wise, you do get more movement travelling across the surface than you would on a pocket sprung mattress, so if you're a light sleeper with a fidgety partner, that's something to think about.
Carefully hand-tufted to lock in the fillings and improve durability with tailor-made support, where you need it most. When I ran my hand over the tufting you can feel those points pulling everything together, which is good for keeping the fillings in place, but it does make the surface feel a bit more 'traditional' and less smooth than a deep quilted top.
