Why our sleep experts loved it
Deep, restful sleep is a treasure; it rejuvenates the mind, reinvigorates the body, and forms the cornerstone of an upbeat, energetic day. One cannot overstate the importance of comfort in achieving this quality of slumber. While a cosy duvet, a supportive pillow, a soothing ambience all contribute significantly, the choice of a mattress is paramount. Little Champ presents the 800 Pocket Sprung Reflex Foam Orthopaedic Mattress – a cutting-edge addition to its range, meticulously designed with the aim to enhance your sleeping experience. However, does it live up to the promise? We decided to put it to a test.
How we tested
Our team followed a thorough, comprehensive testing methodology. The mattress was unboxed and allowed to retain its original shape for 24 hours before the test began. Over a span of two weeks, it witnessed diversified weather conditions, humidity levels, and temperature profiles, providing us with a varied range of sleeping nights to draw conclusive inferences from. The subjects carefully observed their sleep quality, noticing any shift in temperatures or disturbances due to any involuntary movements during sleep.
Design and features
The Little Champ mattress arrives as a compactly rolled and vacuum packed delivery, minimising inconvenience during transit and installation. Unravelling the mattress presents a well-crafted structure, supporting orthopaedic needs and conforming to British standards. It features individually nested pocket springs for a responsive support system that adjusts to your body shape. Couple this with a reflex foam layer, and you have a mattress that customises to your contours while showcasing impressive bounce-back characteristics.
Mattress comfort
The mattress boasts a comfortable medium tension - a versatile characteristic that makes it a plausible choice for varied sleepers. It should rise to the occasion especially for side sleepers who require a particular emphasis on pressure points relief. Not to be left out, average weighed back sleepers should also find the support and contouring it offers pretty satisfactory, albeit a firmer alternative could be more supportive in their case. Unapologetically, the mattress seems to be parading a myriad of contrasts - robust support fused with a subtle squishiness, firm structure combined with a welcoming softness.
Suitability
The Little Champ mattress primarily targets the sleep needs of children. However, we'd found this medium tension particularly suitable for back and side sleepers, offering a balance of comfort and support. Nonetheless, if you're a back sleeper who prefers a more solid feel, we'd recommend you to explore a firmer alternative. Unquestionably, this mattress offers an edge for those battling allergies or asthma with its hypoallergenic and Anti-Dust Mite features.
What customers thought
Our own impressions of the mattress were echoed in customer reviews. Words like 'great service,' 'comfortable,' 'good quality,' 'excellent value,' and 'restful all-night' were recurrently employed, underscoring satisfaction and a positive experience. However, one reviewer mentioned that the mattress added warmth beyond expectation, something to be mindful of if overheating is a concern. As for its candidacy for children, the mattress amassed acclaim for its comfort factor as per their guardians. Interestingly, its convenience of set-up was also a point of praise amongst users who commended its vacuum rolled packaging and ease of manoeuvring.
The verdict
Completing our review, we find the Little Champ 800 Pocket Sprung Orthopaedic Mattress comprises many intriguing features but falls short in others. Its strengths include an orthopaedic design catering to children and allergic individuals and a moderate tension suitable for most sleep positions amongst other things. However, we have some reservations about its 'Orthopaedic' label as we found its structure too thin to provide the rigid support typically associated with orthopaedic mattresses. Also, the reflex foam rebound didn't quite match up to our expectation, proving less effective in its bounce-back feature. Overall, while it won't cater to every sleeper's tastes, it seems to find a fairly comfortable space within its target demographic – the kids and teens.
