Sleep Science is a new sub-brand from the popular mattress manufacturer Staples. Staples are renowned in the industry for their high quality materials and great quality mattresses, having done so successfully since 1895. The Sleep Science range takes everything that Staples does well and cranks them up a notch with a direction that leans further toward foam based solutions for the comfort and support layers.
At present the range of Sleep Science mattresses is somewhat limited with Staples choosing to push this particular range in a limited number of places, at present exclusively to Bensons for Beds. As a result, reviews are somewhat limited and it can be particularly challenging to gauge performance. That said, we have been able to get an understanding of the makeup of the mattresses on offer with some interesting insights.
Sleep Science Tensions
This lineup of mattresses consists of a fairly limiting number of tensions ranging from medium through to firm. The benefit of this generally is that the majority of us will find one of these two tensions to be suitable. Softer mattresses are excluded from the lineup at present which is not uncommon as demand for these has massively dropped off over the years as people begin to understand the difference between softness and tension.
The medium tensions will be most well suited as an all-rounder for the majority of people, offering great suitability for the average person who sleeps on their back, side or front. If you are heavier than average, or have back pain, then it may be worth considering the firmer variety which will be slightly less suitable for side sleepers but more suitable for back and stomach sleepers.
Kontur™ memory foam
Innovation is at the forefront of what Staples and the Sleep Science brand aims to achieve, utilising Kontur™ memory foam throughout the comfort layer, offering supreme softness and traditional bounce-back contouring. The main feature that stands out with Kontur™ is that it has many of the traditional memory foam properties but without the downsides surrounding breathability. What this means is that you won’t get too warm using these mattresses resulting in a superb all-season mattress that is more breathable than standard.
Sleep Science Mattress Guarantee
Sleep Science has large ambitions and while the price point may prove to price out some of the lower-end of the market, the guarantee helps highlight the quality of product you receive relative to that cost. Some in the industry rely on mandatory minimum guarantees of 1 year to push out poorer quality products with planned obsolescence for a period of time beyond that point. The problem with this model is that while competitors may be cheaper, you’ll be replacing sooner. With Sleep Science you get an impressive 10 year guarantee, far beyond the average replacement lifespan of 7 years and a testament to the quality of materials on offer within the range. The manufacturer and retailer both believe in the product and highlight why you should too.
