Why our sleep experts loved it
For those who are tireless in the pursuit of sleep heaven, welcome to our comprehensive review of the Hyde & Sleep Refine Air Memory Foam Mattress - an offering that rightfully deserves its place on the mattress market, but like all products, it does leave some room for critique. We'll be exploring its layers, trying to decode the comfort it provides, and deliver an impartial verdict.
How We Test
We conduct our tests with great consideration and attention to detail, in both store and in person. However, it's essential to note that these tests did not include an at-home trial. We meticulously explore the mattress features, comfort, support and cooling system, all aimed towards providing you with an honest assessment of how this mattress performs.
Design and Features
The Hyde & Sleep Refine Air Memory Foam Mattress integrates some intriguing elements whilst maintaining an overarching simplicity. Filled with Medium comfort grade support, it boasts five supportive layers of cushioning, expertly zoned and profiled base foam, and the unique Aurora® airflow foam for better sleep hygiene. It wraps all of these up in an ultra-breathable knitted cover. A manifestation of British craftsmanship, it gets full reliability marks with a 5-year guarantee and 100 nights Comfort Guarantee.
The mattress's more notable feature is the Aurora® foam pods that seem like a stride towards innovation. Regrettably, having tested it in-store, we found that these pods didn't deliver the comfort and support we anticipated. They may boast of being spring-like in their performance and bounciness, but the new Aurora foam didn't quite strike home for us.
Mattress Comfort
The quest for 'comfort' can vary considerably from sleeper to sleeper, but universally we all yearn for a mattress that blends a plush feel with apt support. The Hyde & Sleep Refine Air Memory Foam Mattress, fitted with medium comfort grade support, yields sufficient contouring for average weighted sleepers, regardless of their sleeping position. However, I found it falls marginally short on firmness for back sleepers who may require a little more support for added contentment.
Despite the allure of these intriguing Aurora® foam pods, my personal comfort experience indicates that it could improve in this area. I also found that the cooling system was not very effective and the mattress tended to get overly warm, contradicting its claim of superior breathability.
Suitability
In my opinion, this mattress can particularly suit side sleepers with an average body weight. The medium comfort grade does a decent job of catering to all-round support needs. However, back sleepers may want to look towards a slightly firmer offering for enhanced contouring and support. I also feel obliged to caution heat-sensitive sleepers about the mattress's cooling mechanics that may not live up to their expectation.
What Customers Thought
"My husband has Parkinson’s and dementia and it took him about a fortnight to get used to it. The mattress is lower than his old bed and he sometimes struggles to get standing from the lower position."
"The mattress provides unique bounce back that creates the feeling of sleeping on air. The innovative foam pods provide a spring like comfort. If you are looking for support with a plush feel, the Refine Air is your perfect match."
Whilst many customers have found the unique foam pods a source of comfort, it's equally important to note expressions of dissatisfaction regarding the mattress's temperature regulation and the foam pods not quite living up to the hype.
The Verdict
Ultimately, the Hyde & Sleep Refine Air Memory Foam Mattress is a respectable entrant in the mattress arena, catering adequately to side sleepers and those looking for a distinctly plush feel. However, for the price, I believe there are better options available, especially for those who prefer sleeping on their back or suffer from heat sensitivity. The Aurora foam technology, while seemingly innovative, might need more refinement for optimal comfort.
Mattress selection is an overwhelmingly personal journey, and whilst this mattress didn't quite tick all of my boxes, it might be the perfect choice for other sleepers out there! As always, we'd recommend taking advantage of the 100 nights Comfort Guarantee to ensure it's the right fit for you.
