Why our sleep experts loved it
I've been looking forward to getting my hands on the Sleepeezee Diamond Ortho Pocket, as it's one of those old-school ortho builds that people still ask me about all the time. I tried it in person and the first thing I noticed was how traditional it feels, in a good way, with that proper damask cover rather than the stretchy knit you see on a lot of newer mattresses.
This double-sided mattress is constructed with a turnable design to extend the life of your mattress and comes with convenient turning handles on the sides for easy turning. The handles are actually usable too, I gave them a proper tug and they didn't feel like they'd rip off in a month, which is more than I can say for some. That said, it is a bit of a lump to turn, so if you're on your own or you've got a bad back, you'll want to think about whether you'll realistically keep up with the flipping.
Pocket springs mounted in separate cotton pockets create sleeping zones with no roll-together, and when I pressed down with my hand you could feel the springs reacting in smaller patches rather than the whole surface dipping at once. Lying on my back, it kept my hips up nicely and felt very 'straight' through the spine, which is exactly what most people mean when they say they want an ortho mattress. On my side though, it felt on the firmer end around the shoulder, so if you're a lighter side sleeper this could come up a bit hard unless you like that really firm feel.
The damask cover and hypoallergenic construction make it ideal for asthmatics and allergy sufferers. Running my hand across the cover it felt smooth and a bit cooler to the touch than memory foam styles, but it's not a removable, washable cover, so you're still going to want a decent protector if allergies are a big thing in your house.
With a 5-year guarantee and nearly 2000 nights of comfortable sleep behind it, you can trust that the Sleepeezee Diamond Ortho Pocket Mattress will be a sound investment. For me personally, it's a solid pick if you want a firmer, more traditional pocket sprung feel and you're happy to do the regular turning, but if you're after that sink-in pressure relief or you hate mattress maintenance, I'd look elsewhere.
