Why our sleep experts loved it
You spend about a third of your life sleeping, which is why it’s so important to have a comfortable mattress like the Simply By Bensons Bloom. If you’re like most people, you probably don’t think about your mattress very often. However, when that time comes (normally around 7 to 8 years), and you start to feel more aches or develop other problems sleeping then it becomes apparent how much your bed affects your quality of life. This new Bloom mattress gets a lot of things right and at a price point that is lower than the typical but with a fantastic guarantee and great brand establishment to back it up.
Who is the mattress for
Starting with the biggest questions first, let’s look into suitability. To start, this is an open coil sprung mattress which is commonly found in both budget and mid-range products. It is typically found in the base layer on single sided mattresses that do not need rotation as the comfort layer will only be on one side.
In the case of the Bloom, it’s a budget mattress with fairly budget components. I personally prefer the pocket spring technology found in more expensive mattresses, but don’t let that dissuade you, there's a few reasons to consider this product. First things first, the tension given off by the springs and upper layers is a medium rating which has mass market appeal and should suit most people of average build who sleep either on their back or side. The spring system, while not my favourite, does still offer good body contouring and responsive properties that will be suitable for many years to come. What’s more, the 5 year guarantee will give those looking for an additional piece of mind a good amount of confidence.
Who is the mattress not suitable for?
Those with back pain who are looking for orthopaedic support from a new mattress should look elsewhere as this is a one-size-fits-all approach to mattress building that will not adapt to your needs in this instance. Same too for those of a heavier variety who require more support than this medium tension will give.
Where in the market does the mattress compete?
The Bloom is safely inside budget territory and that is reflected by the inclusion of the open coil spring and single sided design. There are benefits to this though, as an open coil is durable and long lasting while the single sided nature of the product means you do not need to flip it, saving on time and effort making for a hassle-free experience.
What is the level of firmness experienced?
The Bloom comes in the middle at a rating of 5, where 10 is firm and 1 is soft. This is to be expected given the medium tension springs, deep comfort layer fillings and design of the spring system. This makes it ideal for side sleepers and back sleepers alike.
