Why our sleep experts loved it
We've got a treat for you all today thanks to an unboxing special with the Simba Hybrid® Luxe Mattress. The mattress arrived in a compact, well-designed box, and as I cut through the packaging, I found a neatly folded mattress along with a welcome kit. This kit included a user manual and a cutter for the plastic wrap. The mattress expanded to its full size within a few hours, and I was pleasantly surprised by the minimal off-gassing.
First Impressions
My first night on the Simba Hybrid® Luxe Mattress was transformative. The top bamboo-infused wool layer provided a cool, comforting embrace, which was a significant win for me as a hot sleeper.
The Evolution of Simba Mattresses
After the successful launch of the Hybrid Pro in 2020, Simba introduced an even more opulent version in 2021: the Hybrid Luxe. This mattress takes luxury to a new level, featuring three layers of springs and a blend of wool and bamboo for ultimate comfort.
Detailed Construction and Materials
The mattress is a marvel of engineering with its 11-layer construction. The third layer of pocket springs, which are slightly larger at 40mm, adds a unique comfort layer that distinguishes it from other mattresses. These springs are not just bigger; they are designed to add comfort rather than just support. This layer comes above a zoned supportive foam base and a high-definition foam layer, making the mattress ideal for side sleepers like me. Additional layers include another Simba-Pure foam layer with edge support, two 25mm microspring layers, and a bamboo wool layer for a cool and comfortable sleep. The mattress is topped off with a breathable, removable cover.
Depth and Maintenance
With a depth of 310mm, the Luxe is significantly thicker than the average bed-in-a-box mattress. It surpasses the Hybrid Pro by 30mm and the regular Simba Hybrid by 60mm. The mattress is low-maintenance, requiring only periodic rotation.
Warranty and Trial Period
This part is a little bit copy and paste as these are the core principles of the Simba mattress but the Luxe comes with a generous 10-year warranty and a 365-night trial and so if you're not satisfied, you can return it for a full refund within that period. Interesting, there is no requirement for a mattress protector during the trial, although it's advisable to use one, particularly as bed bugs are a hot topic right now with an expected epidemic on the move across the globe (depending on when you read this).
Price and Sleep Quality
The Luxe is one of the priciest options in the bed-in-a-box market. Its price starts at over £1,100 for a single and goes up to around 2 grand for a king-size. When compared to the Hybrid Pro, the Luxe is nearly £500 more expensive.
On the subject of sleep quality and initial feel, my nights have improved dramatically. I wake up feeling refreshed and without the usual aches and pains. The mattress strikes a perfect balance; it's neither too soft that you sink in nor too hard that it feels like sleeping on a board.
If budget constraints are not an issue, the Simba Hybrid Luxe is an excellent investment for a luxurious sleep experience. However, its high price tag may not justify the incremental benefits over the already impressive Hybrid Pro, especially if you're not a side sleeper. Nonetheless, if you opt for the Luxe, you're likely to be extremely satisfied with your purchase.
