Why our sleep experts loved it
I’ve been looking forward to getting my hands on the Silentnight Lift Replenish 2000 Pocket Medium-Soft Mattress because Silentnight tend to get the basics right, and I tried this one out in person by spending a good few minutes sat on the edge and then lying on my back and side. The Lift Replenish 2000 Pocket Medium-Soft Mattress offers comfort by compromising slightly with its reduced support for a restful night's sleep that will appeal to side sleepers more than their back sleeper counterparts. This mattress is designed with 2000 individual pocket springs, providing comfort and support while maintaining a medium-soft feel that is able to contour to your body, helping to alleviate muscle tension as you move around on the product. On my side, I could feel it giving nicely at the shoulder and hip, but when I rolled onto my back my lower back didn’t feel quite as ‘propped up’ as I’d want if this was my every-night mattress.
The mattress is upholstered with a softer and more breathable cover than that found in recent mattresses we have reviewed and, running my hand across it, it felt smooth and cool to the touch rather than plasticky. When I pressed down with my palm, the surface had that gentle, springy pushback you’d expect from a pocket sprung build, but it’s not a ‘firm’ pushback, it’s more of a slow, cushioned response. It uses zonal support to disperse weight evenly across the surface and reduce motion transfer, and in my quick test I could feel the springs reacting in smaller areas rather than the whole mattress moving at once. That said, it’s still a medium-soft mattress, so if you’re a front sleeper, or a back sleeper who likes a flatter, firmer feel, I think you’ll find it a bit too yielding through the middle. Also worth saying, the edge support is only average, when I sat right on the side it dipped more than I’d like, which matters if you perch on the edge to get dressed or you want to use the full width of the mattress.
What’s more, the latex used in the comfort layer is particularly deep and plush, and lying on it I got that buoyant ‘floating’ feel rather than the slow sink you get from memory foam. It does a good job of avoiding that sticky heat build up, but if you’re someone who wants that proper hugged-in feel, latex can feel a bit bouncy and less moulded to the body. The result of this combination is that you will be sleeping cooler for longer periods of time which will allow you to wake up feeling fully refreshed.
The Replenish 2000 also comes with a 5 year guarantee, so you can rest assured that your investment is well protected with the full support of both the retailer and manufacturer. I’ll be honest though, 5 years isn’t massive at this price point, plenty of competitors push 10 years, so it’s something I’d weigh up if you’re expecting a long warranty as standard. Whether you're a light or a heavy sleeper, the Silentnight Lift Replenish 2000 Pocket Medium-Soft Mattress will provide a comfortable and restful sleep experience for many, with a particular view toward side sleepers and those with a lower BMI than average. For me personally, it sits in the ‘good for the right person’ bracket, brilliant if you want a softer, cooler, latex-topped pocket sprung feel, but not the one I’d point a heavier back sleeper towards.
