Why our sleep experts loved it
We all know how essential a good night's sleep is to maintain our overall health and wellbeing. It allows us time to rest, recharge, and be ready to tackle any obstacle that comes our way with a fresh and focused mind. When it comes to getting the right amount of rejuvenating beauty sleep, comfort plays a key role. Having the perfect combination of comfy pillows, warm duvets, and undeniably, the most important aspect, a sturdy and comfortable mattress is paramount. Every aspect of your sleeping position, whether it's side-sleeping or back-sleeping, can be significantly impacted by the type of mattress you choose. With a plethora of brands and categories in the market, it's crucial to decipher what best suits your need. So today, let's delve deep into the intricacies of an offering by a well-established name in the mattress market - Sealy. And the product under our microscopic eye today is the Sealy Advantage Austen Latex Mattress.
How we tested
Testing the Sealy Advantage Austen Latex Mattress was a detailed process. We started by unpacking the mattress and setting it up on our bed. We gave it a considerable 24 hours to breathe and decompress before we slept on it. There have been both cosy and crisp days during our testing period of 2 weeks, giving us a well-rounded impression of the mattress in different temperature conditions. Among the things we examined closely were the mattress's ability at absorbing motion, i.e., if a partner moving or turning would disturb our sleep, and how well it regulated our body temperature. But what we focused on the most was the comfort it offered because, at the end of the day, that's crucial.
Design and features
The Sealy Advantage Austen Latex Mattress boasts a thoughtful and ergonomic design. The dimensions align well with the UK standard, offering single, double, and king sizes. It's a bit heavy and can be tricky to manoeuvre, but the robustness speaks to its quality. The mattress gets its bounce from a generous layer of natural Latex, further on, the PostureTech Core Support spring system technology provides comprehensive body support, ensuring good posture and pressure relief. Wrapped inside the spring unit is EdgeGuard that offers additional stability and extends the sleeping surface. The edge-to-edge support prevents the roll-off feeling, providing a more secure sleep. Furthermore, covered in a plush, allergy-free knitted fabric that elevates the cosiness while allowing enhanced breathability and airflow for a cooler sleep.
What customers thought
Customers have largely voiced their appreciation, especially noting comfortable sleep and the significant reduction in the roll-off feeling. The medium to firm rating has been a favourite feature benefiting both side and back sleepers. Those who suffered from allergies particularly appreciated the hypoallergenic fabric. Some mentioned that they woke up feeling refreshed and without any trace of back or shoulder pain.
Matress comfort
Latex, with its stronger bounce-back rate as compared to regular memory foam (my personal favourite comfort layer), clearly shines in the Sealy Advantage Austen Latex Mattress. It also has antibacterial properties, co-creating a cool and fresh sleeping environment. The medium to firm rating indeed makes for a comforting and supportive sleep. While it provides much-needed support, it doesn't compromise on comfort, striking a sweet balance. As a side and back sleeper, I appreciated its perfect blend of firmness and softness.
Suitability
The medium to firm rating of the Sealy Advantage Austen Latex Mattress is an excellent choice, especially for side and back sleepers of average weight. While it provides a good level of comfort and support to all, side sleepers with an hourglass figure might want something a tinge softer for better sinkage. Back sleepers will enjoy exceptional support from this firmness.
The verdict
The Sealy's Advantage Austen Latex Mattress certainly stood up to our rigorous testing. Although its spring system isn't my preferred choice, I would side with pocket springs any day, I must admit that it delivers a high level of comfort and support. I particularly appreciate the latex layer, which adds comfort minus the heat retention usually tied to memory foam. It felt luxurious and yielded a refreshing and revitalizing sleep. However, the price is on the steep side, but then again, you pay for quality and longevity. If you are searching for that well-rounded mattress – Sealy Advantage Austen Latex Mattress sure is a strong contender!
