Why our sleep experts loved it
I’ve been looking forward to reviewing this one because Harrison Spinks tend to do natural fillings properly, and I got my hands on the Bordley Natural 2450 Pocket Softer in-store to see if it felt as plush as the spec suggests. Straight away, running my hand across the cover it felt properly premium, that sort of soft, dry feel you get with natural fibres rather than anything plasticky. When I pressed down through the top, you can feel there’s a decent amount of filling before you hit the spring response, which is exactly what you want if you’re buying the softer tension for comfort.
If you are searching for a mattress that offers superior comfort and support, the Harrison Spinks Bordley Natural 2450 Pocket Softer Mattress is the perfect choice for you. This mattress is constructed using natural materials and the latest manufacturing techniques, resulting in a luxurious sleeping experience that is both supportive and comfortable. The pocket spring system provides superior comfort, with each pocket conforming to the unique contours of your body to provide tailored support.
Lying on it on my back, my hips felt nicely held up without that ‘stuck on top’ feeling you sometimes get with softer models, and I could feel the pocket springs reacting in smaller sections rather than the whole surface moving at once. Side sleeping was where it made the most sense for me, my shoulder sank in a touch more and it took the edge off pressure, which is what most people are chasing with a softer tension. That said, if you’re a heavier side sleeper or you like a really deep sink, this still isn’t a big memory foam hug, it’s more of a cushioned, natural plush feel.
The mattress is also available in a softer tension level providing you with modest support and deep luxurious fillings that are designed to help you get a good night's sleep. The mattress also has a soft, luxurious feel that will help you drift off into a peaceful, relaxing sleep and is ideally suited to those who sleep on their sides or are of a lower BMI than average. Dedicated back sleepers and those with additional support needs should instead consider the firm model.
A couple of honest bits though, softer pocket spring mattresses like this can feel a bit ‘too giving’ around the midsection if you’ve got broader hips or you’re used to a firmer, flatter surface. Also, when I sat right on the edge (like you do when putting socks on), it dipped more than I’d want for the money, not awful, but it’s not the sort of rigid edge you get on some firmer builds. For me personally, this sits in the ‘really nice for the right sleeper’ bracket, brilliant if you want natural comfort with a gentler feel, but I’d steer you to the firm version if you need that extra push-back support night after night.
