Pros & Cons

Here we collect tests, guides and product reviews so that you can create a picture of what others think about the product. This analysis and review is based on my experience and a decade of industry insight.

  • Emma® NextGen Cooling Hybrid Mattress offers a happy medium in terms of firmness, making it a comfortable choice for both back and side sleepers, particularly favourable among the latter.
  • The 7-Zone support system offers targeted relief, giving excellent support to individual body parts including the head, shoulders, chest, lower back, hips, thighs, and feet.
  • Temperature regulation, thanks to the inclusion of ThermoSync foam with graphite particles, aids in reducing overheating and provides a cooler sleep environment.
  • The innovative inclusion of the moisture-wicking Emma UltraDry™ breathable cover helps in maintaining optimal freshness while proving convenient with its removability and washability.
  • With a 100-night sleep trial offer, it is a risk-free investment, illustrating the company's confidence in its product, and providing peace of mind to the customer.
  • Despite its many features, the Emma NextGen Cooling Hybrid Mattress might not offer adequate support for individuals who prefer a firmer mattress for better contouring, especially those who sleep on their back.
  • Given it has a medium tension, the mattress might not suit heavier individuals who require a firmer mattress to prevent sinking into the mattress and maintain spinal alignment.
  • Although the mattress offers temperature-regulating properties, some sleepers who prefer to sleep hot may find the cooling effect of the graphite-infused foam unsatisfactory.
  • The mattress's medium firmness might not provide the necessary support for stomach sleepers who often require a firmer surface to maintain proper alignment and avoid back and neck pain.
  • Some vegan customers who are particularly sensitive to the origins of their products may be wary of the mattress despite the vegan-friendly claim, as the certification details aren't explicitly provided.

Why our sleep experts loved it

Introduction

Welcome to my meticulously detailed review of the Emma® NextGen Cooling Hybrid Mattress, an innovative sleep solution aimed at providing optimum comfort and temperature regulation. Having spent a significant amount of time in the mattress industry, I've had the pleasure of testing a wide array of mattresses, and I'm therefore excited to share my insights on this particular model.

How we test

My approach to mattress review involves several critical steps, beginning with a comprehensive examination of the mattress's construction and the materials used. I scrutinize the product's specifications and delve into the individual layers of the mattress, examining how each component functions and how it contributes to the overall sleep experience. Lastly, I consider the overall design, including the mattress cover's aesthetics and practicality. It's worth noting that my testing occurred in-store and is based upon personal experience, supplemented by customer reviews.

Design and Features

The Emma® NextGen Cooling Hybrid Mattress boasts an array of impressive features, starting with its Vegan-friendly credentials and an NBF-approved manufacturer. One standout feature is its 7-zone pocket spring support system, designed for targeted support and pressure relief. This system provides tailored support for various body parts, ensuring a comfortable resting surface regardless ofsleeping position.

Matching its top-notch support system are layers of innovative, breathable ThermoSync™ foam that not only adapts to your body shape but also manages temperature exceptionally well. Infused with graphite particles known for capturing and dissipating heat, this ThermoSync layer helps you achieve the dream of cool, uninterrupted sleep.

Additionally, the mattress possesses an Emma UltraDry™ cover which wicks away moisture, keeping you fresh throughout the night and easily cleanable since it's machine-washable. Other noteworthy features include its fire-resistant properties, hypoallergenic qualities, and a commendable array of awards recognising its exceptional performance in the sleep industry.

Mattress comfort

As subjective as comfort can be, the Emma® NextGen Cooling Hybrid Mattress does an excellent job of catering to a broad range of sleep preferences. My personal experience led me to find that the mattress's medium tension is ideally suited to back and side sleepers, offering ample support while enabling natural curvature of the spine. Having said that, those who primarily sleep on their back may opt for a slightly firmer mattress for even greater support.

Suitability

The mattress is perhaps best-suited to average-weight individuals, regardless of sleeping position. The tailored support of the 7-zone pocket spring system is excellent at contouring and responding to the body without causing undue pressure points. However, my feelings are mixed, almost reminiscent of a nostalgic longing for the Luxe model it replaces, which had superior materials and a feel I personally preferred. However that's not to discount the Emma® NextGen Cooling Hybrid Mattress, it's still a good mattress, just not as good as its predecessor in my opinion.

What customers thought

Customer reviews play a vital role in providing a multi-faceted view of the product. The Emma® NextGen Cooling Hybrid's customer feedback is overwhelmingly positive, with users consistently praising the mattress's level of comfort, support, and cooling properties. Some have even described it as the best sleep they've had in ages. Despite the lack of a home trial, the general consensus among users aligns closely with my own in-person observations made in-store.

The verdict

The Emma® NextGen Cooling Hybrid Mattress is an exceptional mattress that delivers on both comfort and temperature regulation. Offering medium firmness, it strikes an admirable balance between support and plush comfort. However, the shadow of its predecessor looms large, and while this new version is more affordable, those who have experienced the old version might miss its luxurious feel. Still, it's a mattress that provides value for money and would be a fine choice for anyone seeking a cooling hybrid mattress that doesn't compromise comfort.
